Some of today’s technology works like those
five-year car batteries that conk out after five years and three weeks. But
there’s a difference.
The batteries fail right after the warranty
expires but replacing them is relatively inexpensive and happens fast.
The same superior planning goes into today’s major appliances.
It costs a bundle to fix a busted clothes dryer
and it takes forever. Often, the problem isn’t even the electronics. It’s the
mechanical parts, developed and perfected 100 years ago and im-perfected
yesterday.
